Tim's Boat Show Report!

■2015/03/18 Tim's Boat Show Report!
Yokohama Boat Show 2015 - Big Tak II Staff Report
There was plenty to excite the eye at this year's Yokohama Boat Show held in early March. There were luxury cabin cruisers from domestic manufacturers Toyota, Yamaha and Yanmar and overseas manufacturers such as the gorgeous Johnson Yachts from the US (thanks to Koizumi-san and Goto-san, who gave me a great welcome on board), Jeanneau and Benneteau, both well-established French yacht
There were monster racing boats with HUGE outboards from Honda and Suzuki. There were also plenty of jet
skis from market leaders, including Kawasaki and Yamaha, straddled by young models who proved to be popular with the photographers (and the Big Tak II reporter
too!). There were also several makes of dinghy, including a nostalgic encounter with a Mirror dinghy similar to
the type in which I learned to sail in England as a boy, and a good range of rubber-hulled rescue boats such as Zodiac. But the show also featured a good range of
boating and yachting accessories, including Furuno fishfinders, electronic navigational charts, and trusty Helly Hansen and Musto nautical gear, which I wore during
my circumnavigation by tall ship in 1998-2000.
Japanese marina clubs were also well represented:
Hayama, Sajima, and even Otaru, had colourful booths and friendly, welcoming staff. Finally, for those boat
lovers with plenty of money to spare, there was also a display of awesome luxury sports cars to park next to
their luxury cruisers as well. My favourite was the
white Maclaren, an incredible high-performance work of art inspired by the world-famous F1 team's workshop, but it is a bit out of my league - it would be ideal
though as a complement to Takayama Captain's
"Big Tak tank" upgrade - if he can squeeze his
muscles inside the wing door!
